The heat then destroys the cells (papilla) responsible for hair growth, permanently disabling it and causing a reduction in hair growth. Melanin in the epidermis absorbs the light energy and limits the depth of penetration of the laser light into the skin. Using a light wavelength of 808nm enables treatment of relatively dark skin as well as fair-skinned types. However, the Rio Laser hair treatment is not suitable for Afro Caribbean or black skin complexions. In addition, it is also ineffective in removing white and grey hair. For these skin types, electrolysis would be a better alternative treatment.
