Synthetic wigs no longer resemble coarse Barbie doll hair. Advances in fiber construction and texture have made them appear practically identical to real hair wigs and they cost much less money. Synthetic wigs are easy to maintain; when my aunt had cancer, she preferred having a synthetic wig. She said it was easy wash and wear; she'd throw it in the washing machine, let it dry, and be on her way. Although, throwing a synthetic wig in the washing machine is NOT a recommended way of cleaning it, the wig held up nicely and looked real. It looked so good in fact that at her grandson's christening her brother commented on the style and told her he had never seen her hair look better! While it was certainly a faux pas on his part, she handled it with grace and it definitely illustrated that her fake hair looked very real!The strands of fibers that are used to create a synthetic wig can become easily tangled and matted if you don't properly care for the wig. One of the quickest ways to tangle your wig is to neglect to comb it after pulling it off and after washing it and forgetting to store it inside of the net that came with it. The good thing is that with a little time and attention, your wig can be restored into a hairpiece that you will love to wear again.
